Carl R. Barry is a nationally-recognized trial lawyer who primarily represents individuals who have been seriously injured or killed due to the negligent actions of others. Carl has recovered Millions of Dollars in settlements and verdicts for clients involved in 18-wheeler truck accidents and for those who have suffered catastrophic personal injuries as a result of other incidents. Most recently, Carl settled a case for $5 Million Dollars for a Chicago man who was wrongfully imprisoned for over fifteen years.
Carl is regarded as one of the top truck accident lawyers in the state of Texas. Carl has extensive experience litigating cases against 18-wheeler truck companies and knows how to maximize his clients’ financial recovery in these cases.
Prior to starting Barry & Loewy LLP, Carl worked at Susman Godfrey LLP, a Houston-based law firm that is widely considered one of the premier litigation firms in the nation. At Susman Godfrey LLP, Carl worked on complex personal injury cases and business disputes where hundreds of millions of dollars were at stake.
Select Prior Cases
- Represented a family of an Austin man who
was run over and killed by an 18-wheeler truck
while was in the crosswalk of Ben White
Boulevard and the outer road of IH-35. The
18-wheeler truck missed the curved turnoff and
made a dangerous sharp right turn at the
stoplight. The rear wheels of the 18-wheeler ran
over the man. The case settled for a
confidential amount days before it was set to go
trial in federal court. It is believed to be one
of the largest contributory negligence truck-pedestrian wrongful death
settlement in the past ten (10) years in Austin.
- Represented a Houston family who was
seriously injured after being rear-ended by an
18-wheeler truck. In discovery, Carl was able to
expose the truck company’s disgraceful safety
record and history of similar accidents. Soon
after doing this, the truck company settled this
case for a confidential amount.
- Represented a Chicago man who was
innocence-pardoned in 2003 off of Illinois Death
Row for a double murder he did not commit. The
Chicago man was beaten and tortured into falsely
confessing to the crime by Chicago Police. In
January 2008, Carl successfully obtained a Five
Million Dollar ($5,000,000.00) settlement for
his client.
- Represented a Texas businessman in a breach of contract lawsuit. After a five-day civil jury trial outside of San Antonio, Mr. Barry obtained a breach of contract and fraud verdict for $262,500.00 for his client.
Education
Carl earned his Juris Doctorate degree (Honors) from the University of Texas School of Law, where he was named the Nick C. Nichols Endowed Presidential Scholar in Advocacy. Carl earned his Bachelor's degree in Psychology (Honors) from the University of Florida, where he was a Florida Academic Scholar and a member of the National Dean's List.
